Product · SynxDB CE, Community Edition

Apache Cloudberry (Incubating), pre-built. Free, open, deployable.

SynxDB CE is the free Community Edition of Apache Cloudberry (Incubating), pre-built RPM and DEB packages instead of source tarballs.

What it is

From source tarball to deployable package.

Apache Cloudberry (Incubating) is a Postgres-compatible MPP analytical database with an active community (source on GitHub). Like many Apache projects, its official releases are source tarballs, exactly right for ASF governance, but leaving a gap for teams who want to install and run it, not build it.

SynxDB CE closes that gap. We build Apache Cloudberry from source, package it for each supported platform, and verify that all runtime dependencies resolve from standard OS repositories. No third-party package sources, no build toolchain required, see supported platforms below.

Supported platforms

Two platforms. Tested.

Currently shipping SynxDB CE 2.1.0, RPM for Rocky Linux 9 / RHEL 9, DEB for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Each package's dependencies resolve entirely from standard OS repositories.

Tested platforms for SynxDB CE 2.1.0
Distribution Package Version
Rocky Linux 9 / RHEL 9 RPM 2.1.0
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy) DEB 2.1.0

Installation walkthrough →  Step-by-step: download, GPG signature verification, then dnf install on Rocky 9 / RHEL 9 or apt install on Ubuntu 22.04.

What's inside

The full Cloudberry engine. Packaged to run.

Postgres-compatible MPP

The full Apache Cloudberry (Incubating) query engine: share-nothing parallelism, columnar execution, PostgreSQL wire protocol. Every driver that speaks Postgres, speaks SynxDB CE.

Pre-built, pre-tested binaries

We build Apache Cloudberry from source for each supported platform and verify the result. No compiler, no build dependencies, no hours of build time on your end.

Standard OS dependencies

All runtime dependencies resolve from standard Rocky Linux / RHEL and Ubuntu repositories. No third-party package sources required, a fresh OS install with internet access is all you need.

Apache Cloudberry feature parity

Tracks upstream closely. What the community ships is what you get.

CE vs upstream

Same engine. Shipped differently.

Apache Cloudberry (Incubating) releases source tarballs, exactly what the ASF charter requires. SynxDB CE adds the build, packaging, and testing on top so you can install and run without becoming a release engineer. Both are Apache-2.0 open source.

Apache Cloudberry (Incubating)

  • Official ASF source tarballs
  • Community-driven release cadence
  • Build from source on your platform of choice
  • 100% open source, Apache License 2.0

SynxDB CE

  • Signed RPM + DEB binaries
  • Tested install on Rocky Linux 9 / RHEL 9 + Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
  • dnf / apt install; all deps from standard OS repos
  • 100% open source, Apache License 2.0

CE vs SynxDB Cloud

Self-managed or managed. Same family.

CE is the community edition you run yourself, free forever. SynxDB Cloud is our managed, commercial offering on AWS. Pick the one that fits your team today; moving between them is a migration, not a rewrite.

SynxDB CE (free, self-managed)

  • Install on your own hardware or VMs
  • Single-node or self-managed cluster
  • Community support
  • DIY ops: backup, monitoring, support

SynxDB Cloud (commercial, managed)

  • Managed on AWS: we run it, you use it
  • Elastic scaling, S3-native storage
  • 24/7 enterprise support + SLAs
  • Web UI, automated backups, DR
